Music on the Oval Begins!

Cover BandsTonight Stuyvesant Town kicks off its summer concert series, Music on the Oval, which promises to keep Stuy Town’s elite residents dancing into the wee hours of the twilight.

The weekly event boasts New York City’s hottest cover bands and their fresh takes on classic hits from today’s most relevant artists like Sugar Ray, Rascal Flatts and Hootie and the Blowfish.

Stuyvesant Town expects residents to dress for the event, leave their kids at home, and pay a $25 cover charge. Bottled water will be on hand as well as Bud Light for those more adventurous.

But we are already treated to so much beautiful music around the clock: the dulcet tones of the beeping trucks that can only drive backwards, the sweet sounds of dumpsters that are dropped and dragged in the middle of the night, the operatic tenors that bellow through our 80 acre park on their way home from the neighborhood drinking holes. Tish-Spey you are too good to us!

Speaking of bottled water & beer, did you see that tent set up during the concert last night, just to the left of the stage? I noticed they were serving drinks in there so I tried to go in & get water, but was stopped at the entrance and told it was a "private party." Are they kidding? Tishman Speyer sets up a private tent with open bar for their employees in plain sight of the residents they've been f-ing with for months? Way to build up the good will. Still, I never saw more than 6 people actually in the tent at one time... some party. Either they were scared to come or they couldn't find the tent amidst all the "renovations".

I actually would be willing to pay $25 if it meant that people would leave their kids at home. I've attended concerts and movies over the past few years with friends--we'll be sitting on our blanket enjoying a picnic and inevitably some unsupervised brat comes running through, knocking over everything. Last year I had an uber yuppified father screaming at me because I "yelled at his daughter." It was dark out, way past her bedtime, and the little tyrant should've been home.

Oh wow, "Anonymous," I am SO sorry! That was my kid who knocked over your picnic last year! Were you able to salvage any of that lovely gouda and Trader Joe's wine? God I hope so. Upon reflection I realized you were totally right to scream at my child that night. After all, what was a 3-year old doing playing around on a large lawn during such a serious occasion as an open-air Fountains of Wayne concert? Rest assured the little tyrant won't be around next week to ruin your contemplation of the Polka Brothers Band as you sip your Merlot.

I agree with Anonymous--last time I checked, bed-time for 3-year-olds wasn't 10 pm. Plus who brings a 2-year-old to a screening of Rear Window?

This was an email from the band's (easy star allstars) website... They say its a free show, but I am seeing in this bolg that there is a 25 dollar fee? wtf?

The Easy Star All-Stars play their first show in their hometown of New York City in 2009 next Wednesday night (July 16). Even better, the show is FREE! It's the perfect opportunity to catch up with the band, spend an evening outside and enjoy some great reggae music. The show is part of the Music On The Oval Series at Stuyvesant Town Oval in Manhattan (between 16th and 18th streets and Avenues A & B-enter at Ave A and 14th St). DJ Duane Harriot will spin tunes starting at 6 PM, then the Easy Star All-Stars hit the stage at 7 PM. All are welcome.

2009? Dont get it but it should be dope.... just blaze!!!!!
